Ideas form many ways. Sometimes they start from a large company with seemingly endless resources. Generally, they stem from someone looking at their world with a slightly different perspective. The uniqueness of inventors is that they start with the idea that everything is possible. They see 'never' as the starting point. How many times have you looked at an idea and said, “Never in OUR industry!” “Never here!” Usually that means it is a few years away from being mainstream. Wherever a new idea stems, from a small company or a large, it can scale both ways. Large companies can learn to be quicker to market and smaller companies can learn key process improvements to allow them to grow faster. Think of how many times never has happened. As you look at the future of your business, your industry, remember to never say 'never'.

can benefit from change. Years ago, when the first gas station
introduced
self service, it was determined by management of all leading oil
companies
that women would never use self serve. At the first pilot site, women
were
lined up to use it. In fact, the more upscale the woman, the more likely
she
was to use it. The reason? She did not like a greasy car mechanic
leaning
into her nice, clean car. In the end, some women and men long for the
days
of assisted service at the pump again. It is nostalgia for the good old
days that we often experience with rose colored glasses. The actual
experience was not quite what we remember and many out there today, do
not remember at all. It was already before their time. Keep in mind that
your customers are changing and how you engage with them will change
over time as well.
